We can be found in the Cleveland Park neighborhood of Washington
DC, on Connecticut Avenue at metro's red line Cleveland Park stop,
two blocks north of National Zoo, and not far from the National
Cathedral. Our neighborhood boasts critically acclaimed restaurants
and the Uptown Theater, one of the finest wide-screen cinemas in
the country. We have enjoyed doing business in the rich cultural
environment of Washington, with its magnificent museums, its beautiful
cherry blossoms, and its historic homes and gardens. Washington
offers a wide variety of cultural and culinary events, many open
to the public at no cost, many sponsored by embassies. A sampling
of Washington's vast resources follows:
Cleveland Park is just one of Washington's historic districts, explore
others! Try this list of Historic
Districts of Washington DC. Or get current information
on our National
Cherry Blossom Festival. We are so fortunate to be surrounded
by so many embassies, historic buildings, and splendid gardens,
and, of course, museums.
One cannot visit Washington without sampling Smithsonian
Institution's many museums.
The Japanese
embassy's Information and Culture Center offers a wide
variety of cultural events to promote a better understanding of
Japanese culture.
Dumbarton House,
national headquarters of the National Society of the Colonial Dames
of America, featured object this month is an Argand chandelier ca.
1800-1820. Built during the presidencies of John Adams and Thomas
Jefferson, Dumbarton House has an outstanding collection of Federal
period furniture and decorative arts. Hillwood
Museum, formerly owned by Marjorie Merriweather Post,
this magnificent 1926 estate has outstanding collections of French
and Russian decorative and fine arts, and splendid gardens, including
the newly restored Japanese garden.
Don't miss Washington's gardens, including Georgetown's splendid
Dumbarton
Oaks garden, or the National
Arboretum, which, in April 2004, commenorated the 100th
year since the introduction of the Japanese flowering cherry tree
by USDA, by presentinga new cultivated form of flowering cherry
tree, Prunus 'First Lady.
